In anticipation of the upcoming 2016 Concord Museum Holiday House Tour and all the holiday decorating that we will be doing soon, I thought I would repost my old blog entry. Click the link below to read. Enjoy!
A few weeks ago my brother and his family moved back to the east coast from Texas. My brother has been a lawyer in the military: Navy, Marines and most recently Army for 20 years, with time spent in both Iraq and Afghanistan. And now, retirement! My sister-in-law is from Rhode Island so they decided to move back there to be near her family and the beach. Having no other family in the area, we are very excited!! Especially because my brother has two little boys who are 6 and 8. We will love having little ones around again.
My brother and I when we were little :)
And here are Bailey and Ryan with my brother.
My mom with my brother, sister-in-law and my two nephews.
The boys know how to get down and dirty as seen here in "the mud run" race that they entered!
So, back to design! This house will need to stand up to two rough and tumble little boys but also serve as a relaxing, almost beach-house feeling home. Below are some photos of the house as it was seen on the real estate listing. Dated and decor-deprived..my favorite kind of "before" photos!! We're seeing them and the house on Sunday so I will update you on how much they'll let me get away with ;), (I mean how the project moves along! :))
This post was inspired by real life events... :)
The strangest sequence of events yesterday brought my brain full circle back to this blog post. Briefly.. when I arrived home yesterday from a day at the lake with my daughter and her friends, a policeman was standing in my driveway. He informed me that my car had been spotted potentially staking out a nearby bank the night before. My first thought was "who took my car and did that?". And then I realized that I had in fact made a deposit at said bank around 7:30 pm the night before at the atm in back and then proceeded to pull directly into a nearby parking space in order to order a pizza using my Dominos app. "There is a Dominos two minutes up the road sir, you can check their receipts". I sat in that parking space as I often do in parking spaces all over the metro Boston area, I am a soccer mom after all and do spend much of my life killing time waiting in a car for someone somewhere. I sat that particular evening, looking at blogs and photos and returning emails for all of 20 minutes until my little app told me that my pizza was ready, and then I left to get it. The officer accepted my explanation and was on his way..
Seriously?!! Someone saw me sitting there, parked facing the woods, with my head down and called the bank and reported my license the next day?! How long did they watch me before they came up with their accusation? I am now concerned that the next time I walk into that bank there will be a picture of me on the wall and everyone will throw their hands up in the air in surrender! Soccer mom gone postal would be the headlines. Or, are club soccer fees too high for the average middle class family?? :)
Anyway, later that day I sat down to watch the much awaited season premier of my favorite show, Suits..watch it people, it's so goooood!! I'll refrain from describing the storyline but Mike Ross is in jail now. So I'm sitting watching Mike in his jail cell (see picture above), at Danbury Correctional Facility, where the white collar criminals go, and I thought of another show that "takes place" at Danbury, "Orange is the New Black". I don't watch that show, but the title popped into my head when I heard Danbury..do you see where this is going? My brain is like the book "When You Give a Mouse a Cookie...".
Cut to the finish..tongue in cheek, I thought I'd create a design board of what my cell would look like if I was sent to "the Big House" (yet another design reference!!). And of course you want to look good in your own surroundings so what would work with my orange jumpsuit???..See my design board up top. I personally love orange as an accent color in a room. Below you'll see some beautifully designed rooms featuring the color Orange..
Enjoy and have a police free day everyone!!
